evolve UMBC

UMBC opened in 1966 to a class of 450 students. Since this first day, it has been defined by its strong commitment to fostering learning and excellence in the liberal arts, sciences and technology. Throughout its history, UMBC has been constantly evolving in order to fulfill its mission and goals. The university can be defined in various ways, but the communities that have been created and have evolved within and outside of the campus have reflected the evolution of UMBC.
