Abstract: Collection consists of (6) cloth bound, alphabetized account books of photographer William Grancel Fitz. The books chronicle Fitz's photographic ad work for many different advertising agencies and manufacturing companies in New York City. Notable companies include N. W. Ayres, Chevrolet, and Fostoria Glass.

Administrative/Biographical Note

Grancel Fitz (1894-1963) began taking photographs as a hobby in 1914, in the pictorialist tradition. Fitz sold photographic materials up until he became a professional illustrator and advertising photographer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1929, Fitz opened a commercial photographic studio in New York City, New York. (Source: ULAN)
