Eileen J. Garrett<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes considered one of the greatest mediums of the 20th century, Eileen Jeanette Vancho Lyttle Garrett was born in Ireland on March 17, 1893. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a young age, she could see things that others could not. After moving to England, she was introduced to Spiritualist<\/a> practices and began practicing trance mediumship and eventually clairvoyance. It was in London that she first channeled her control, Uvani, who is described as speaking in broken English.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Garrett was always curious and skeptical, even in regards to her own mediumship. Throughout her lifetime, she practiced Spiritualism less with religious fervor and more with an experimental approach. This perspective inspired her to co-establish the Parapsychology Foundation<\/a> with the Hon. Frances P. Bolton in 1951.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is only by scientific patience, over long years, that real spiritual insight for reality can be achieved, and thus clear away the sentimental emotionalism that has long been the main enemy of true psychic research.”<\/p>\nEileen J. The s\u00e9ances involving the R101 blimp crash<\/a> in 1930 brought Garrett international attention and led to collaborations with other prominent spiritualists and parapsychologists, including Nandor Fodor<\/a> and Harry Price<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She passed away on September 15, 1970, leaving behind a tremendous legacy. In his appreciation for Garrett published in 1971, psychiatrist Ian Stevenson attested, “[n]o one in the entire history of psychical research has contributed to it in as many different ways as she did and few have left so deep a mark on its progress.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
