UMBC&#8217;s Athletics became a NCAA Division I team in 1985. The Retriever Athletic Center (RAC) was constructed in 1999. Richard Mentzer was the first director of athletics from 1966-1968, followed by E. Richard Watts, Jr. (1968-1985), Rick Hartzell (1985-1989), Charlie Brown (1989-2013), and Tim Hall (2013-present).<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"provenance\">Provenance Information<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Collection was transferred from the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation in 2009, 2010, and 2013. Accessions: UARC 2009-099, UARC 2010-014, UARC 2013-015, UARC 2013-016.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Collection unprocessed and organized as individual accessions.
