The US and the Soviet Union took interest in ESP during the Cold War as a possible espionage or war tactic. From 1972 until 1992, Stanford Research Institute (now SRI International) conducted parapsychological research, testing remote viewing and psychokinesis. The research has been criticized for methodological flaws which affected the data.
