Many narrators shared their stories of when their family, friends, and community became aware of their being lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer–whether by their communicating it directly, or otherwise. This is commonly referred to as “coming out.” Some found acceptance, while others experienced rejection, and the process of coming out was rarely straightforward and easy.
