Margery Crandon in the Box

A white woman sits inside a wooden box with multiple locks. Each side of the box has a hole for her hand to poke through. On either side of the box sits a person holding the woman's hand. The person on the left is mostly cropped out of the image. The person on the right is an older white man in a dark suit and tie with short slicked hair. The caption below the image reads: "The box into which Margery was clapped by Houdini to prevent any possibility of fraud."

During his later years, Harry Houdini crusaded against false mediums as he had previously done with fraudulent magicians. One medium he took particular interest in was “Margery.” In this image, he is sitting beside the box, holding Margery’s left hand.
