Spring 2018, the highly anticipated Event Center opened on campus
March 2018, UMBC beats UVA (74-54) to become the first No. 16 seed team to best a No. 1 seed in an NCAA men’s tournament
August 2019, the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building opens
Spring 2020, UMBC campus community adapted to remote learning and research and then celebrated our return in Fall 2021. TIME honored UMBC alumni Kizzmekia Corbett as Hero of the Year for her leadership in developing the COVID-19 vaccine.
Spring 2022, Freeman Hrabowski announces retirement from UMBC and UMBC is ranked an R1 research institution by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
August 2022, Valerie Sheares Ashby named next President of UMBC
