Soccer was UMBC's first intercollegiate sport in 1966. UMBC's Athletics became a NCAA Division I team in 1985. The Retriever Athletic Center (RAC) was constructed in 1999. Richard Mentzer was the first director of athletics from 1966-1968, followed by E. Richard Watts, Jr. (1968-1985), Rick Hartzell (1985-1989), Charlie Brown (1989-2013), and Tim Hall (2013-present).
Collection was transferred from the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation in 2009, 2010, and 2013. Accessions: UARC 2009-099, UARC 2010-014, UARC 2013-015, UARC 2013-016.
Collection unprocessed and organized as individual accessions. University publications relating to Athletics, including scrapbooks and media guides, are available under the call number UPUB A7.
