Administrative/Biographical Note
Soccer was UMBC's first intercollegiate sport in 1966. UMBC's Athletics became a NCAA
Division I team in 1985. The Retriever Athletic Center (RAC) was constructed in 1999.
Richard Mentzer was the first director of athletics from 1966-1968, followed by E.
Richard Watts, Jr. (1968-1985), Rick Hartzell (1985-1989), Charlie Brown (1989-2013),
and Tim Hall (2013-present).

Collection was transferred from the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and
