Administrative/Biographical Note
Students began staging theater productions in 1967 and Theatre was established as
an academic department in 1971. The department is committed to performing both classical
and contemporary productions. Both the Shakespeare on Wheels (1985-1996) and the Maryland
Stage Company (founded 1987) were based in the UMBC Theatre department.

Provenance and Acquisition Information
Printed promotional materials, programs, posters, and records have been sent from
the Theatre department directly. Initial transfer of digital files sent from Terry
Cobb (Light/Sound Designer), who also digitized the items. Digital files sent since
2008 ar born-digital files. Theatre department to send annual transfer, files to be
added to the Digital Collections. Accessions: UARC 2007-02, UARC 2008-17, UARC 2011-016,
UARC 2011-021, UARC 2011-023, UARC 2012-007, UARC 2013-004.
Processing Note
Printed materials are unprocessed. In 2008, Archivist Lindsey Loeper worked with Terry
Cobb to create a digital collection of digitized and born-digital Theatre department
production posters, programs, and publicity photographs. This collection is available
in UMBC's Digital Collections.
