Abstract:Collection consists of correspondence, pamphlets, research files, flyers, photographs, publications, posters and maps belonging to former UMBC professor Gloria Oden. The majority of material is from Oden’s time as a member of the UMBC English Department. Notable items include letters received from poet Kenneth Rexroth.

Administrative/Biographical Note

Gloria Catherine Oden (1923-2011) was an American poet, professor, and editor. She joined the UMBC faculty as an English professor in the 1970s, and taught there until retiring in 1996. Oden was nominated for the Pultizer Prize in 1979 for a collection of poems entitled Resurrections.

Provenance Information

Contains five accessions. UARC 1997-28 and UARC 1999-27 were transferred from Gloria Oden/UMBC English Department. UARC 2008-21 materials were transferred prior to 2008 and accessioned on 7/9/2008. The original donor and receipt date of UARC 2009-020 are unknown; it was assigned an accession number in 2009. UARC 2013-003.
