Abstract: This collection contains records from the Graduate School, including Dean's office correspondence, program proposals, information regarding the UMBC/ UMAB graduate school merger to University of Maryland Graduate School Baltimore (UMGSB), information relating to the University System of Maryland, graduate council committee files, newsletters, commencement programs, reports, and surveys.

Administrative/Biographical Note

The UMBC Graduate School offers Master's degrees, doctoral degree programs, and graduate certificate programs in the natural and social sciences, engineering, public policy, and arts and humanities. UMBC's first graduate programs were started in 1970 with a masters program in Applied Mathematics; the first Masters degrees were awarded to Applied Mathematics graduates in 1973. In 1976, Applied Mathematics began the university's first Ph.D. program. In 1985, UMBC's graduate school merged with University of Maryland, Baltimore to create the University of Maryland Graduate School, Baltimore (UMGSB).

The collection is currently being processed. The records have been sorted and arranged based on folder name and subject information. Original folders have been placed in acid-free boxes. Publications have been removed and placed in University Publications. University publications relating to the Graduate School and the Office of Graduate Studies and Research are available under the call numbers UPUB G3 and UPUB G4.
