Abstract:Collection consists of materials belonging to Dr. John Starr, former Chair of the UMBC Geography Department. Includes papers, correspondence, memos, reports, and xeroxes of articles, many dealing with transportation issues particularly those of the Port of Baltimore, the Chesapeake Bay, and the surrounding area. Also includes materials pertaining to Geography program at UMBC, as well as faculty issues.

Administrative/Biographical Note

Dr. John Starr founded the Geography program at UMBC in 1967 and taught at the university for 29 years. He served as chair of the Geography Department from 1967-1981, and as Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs from 1985-1990. He retired in 1996.

Provenance Information

Materials transferred from Geography Department in 1998. Accessions: UARC 1998-20. This accession was originally listed as 4 boxes, but a fifth box was located during rehousing.

Collection unprocessed. A significant amount of photocopied published material was removed, and the rest of the collection rehoused, in March 2016.
