Administrative/Biographical Note
Grancel Fitz (1894-1963) began taking photographs as a hobby in 1914, in the pictorialist
tradition. Fitz sold photographic materials up until he became a professional illustrator
and advertising photographer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1929, Fitz opened a
commercial photographic studio in New York City, New York. (Source: ULAN)

Includes accession PHMS 2011-01, donated by Fitz's niece Anne Brown in memory of her
great uncle.
Processing Note
This collection is unprocessed. Grancel Fitz photographs, donated in 1986, are available
in The Photography Collections at UMBC.
