Abstract:The Maryland Traditions records contain the administrative and ethnographic fieldwork files pertaining to the Maryland Traditions Program of the Maryland State Arts Council from 2000 to 2013. The program aims to document, cultivate and celebrate the folklife of Maryland through fieldwork, publication and recording projects. All materials were collected and created for the use of the program and consist of folklife and include oral histories, interviews, photographs, and video pertaining to ethnographic field documentation of Maryland.

Administrative/Biographical Note

The Maryland State Arts Council was established in 1967 as an agency of the State of Maryland, under the authority of the Department of Business & Economic Development, Division of Tourism, Film and the Arts. MSAC awards grants to organizations and individual artists for arts programming and projects, provides technical and advisory assistance to individuals and groups, and carries out cultural programs of its own. The Council’s Maryland Folklife program co-founded Maryland Traditions with the Maryland Historical Trust in 2000 to preserve and promote authentic cultural traditions and folk arts.

Provenance Information

All materials were collected and created for the use of Maryland Traditions program of the MSAC from 2000 – 2013. Accessions: MSS 2014-02, MSS 2014-09.
