The Alan & Wendy Wilson Innovation Lab in the Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery

Thanks to a generous gift from the Alan D. and Wendy R. Wilson Foundation, the Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery is creating a dedicated space for students to develop ideas, prototype projects, and seek mentorship on innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Alan & Wendy Wilson Innovation Lab will be located on the first floor and open to all UMBC students. As a space that will serve all departments and disciplines, programming will be developed with partners from across campus including the Alex. Brown Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. The Innovation Lab will also provide opportunities for students to develop new skills through access to technologies such as Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality equipment and fabrication equipment such as 3D printers. It will also serve as a hub to learn about other fabrication and innovation resources available to the UMBC community.

The Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery is committed to aligning the planning and future programming of this space with the University’s core values of Inclusive Excellence, Innovation, and Collaboration. We are also committed to making informed and intentional decisions regarding the accessibility and environmental sustainability of space modifications, technologies adopted, and programming offered. The planning process commenced upon receipt of the gift in late 2019 and renovations are expected to be completed in Summer 2022. We look forward to sharing our progress as we move forward!
