Library Instruction

Through library instruction, subject librarians partner with teaching faculty to facilitate the integration of critical information literacy concepts and skills into university curricula. Instruction is available for on-campus, hybrid, and online courses, and engages students in active learning whenever possible.

Library instruction will be available in a variety of ways:

  • in-person in Library 259 or in your classroom (at the discretion of the librarian instructor)
  • online during class time via synchronous instruction
  • with asynchronous materials that your students can use outside of class

Complete the library instruction form to request support for your class. Contact the subject librarian for your department if you’d like to discuss your options before submitting a request. Special Collections and Archives instruction is also available.

Please submit your instruction request:

  • at least 2 weeks prior to your requested session
  • before April 1 (spring) and November 1 (fall)

After you click submit, you will receive a confirmation of your submission and an email with your responses. A librarian will respond to your request within 2 to 3 working days.

Questions? Contact the Reference & Instruction department at ref-group@umbc.edu or through Ask a Librarian.
