Administrative/Biographical Note

9-5 Baltimore
9 to 5 Working Women originally formed as a national organization for women office workers in 1973, advocating for policy change around gender equity in the workforce and fair, inclusive workplaces. The larger organization is still active, and has expanded their reach to working women across industries and sectors. The Baltimore Chapter, which is credited as the creator of this collection, formalized in 1978 and remained active until 1987. During this time, they helped to organize major campaigns around issues and events, such as, National Secretary’s Week, video display terminal safety precautions, and family leave. The chapter functioned as a 501c3 non-profit with under 5 paid staff members from 1978-1985, and then switched to a volunteer-run organization until it disbanded in 1987.
