| Abstract: | Collection consists of oral history interviews with UMBC faculty, staff, and alumni in the context of several different initiatives, including Dr. Edward Orser's oral history project in the 1990s in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of UMBC; the UMBC Founders Oral History Project, established and managed through the Martha Ross Center for Oral History; and most recently, oral histories conducted in preparation for the 50th anniversary of UMBC. Materials include paperwork, original recordings, duplicate dvds, and transcripts. |

Several oral history projects have been undertaken at UMBC. The first, led by Dr. Ed Orser for the 30th anniversary, was completed in the mid 1990s and a half hour compilation was completed, titled "UMBC: The First Years." In preparation for the 40th anniversary in 2006, additional interviews were conducted by Joseph Tatarewicz and Barry Lanman of the Martha Ross Center for Oral History; this project, which is still active, is called the UMBC Founders Oral History Project. Additionally, Dr. Larry Wilt and Dr. George La Noue have both conducted interviews with UMBC-related administrators for the 40th anniversary and 50th anniversary, respectively.
Collection material has been sent from several different sources depending on the interviewer or the group that created the recordings. Accessions: UARC1993-01, UARC1996-18, UARC2001-06, UARC2001-09, UARC2002-16-02, UARC2007-22, UARC2009-48, UARC2009-49, UARC2009-103, UARC2010-028. Additional materials were transferred from Collections 196 and 207. Accessions: UARC 2010-07 and UARC 2015-21.
Each interview has been assigned a unique number (e.g., OH-001), which applies to all formats in which the interview is held. Successive interviews with the same interviewees are given another number. These numbers provide the physical organizing principle for the collection. At the first processing, the numbers were assigned based on an alphabetical ordering of the names of interviewees, but subsequent additions to the collection will be assigned new numbers and the alphabetical arrangement will not be continued.
