Abstract: The Human Being Productions collection consists of digital image files made between 2021 and the present, documenting folklife activities sponsored by the Maryland State Arts Council. Human Being Productions has served as official photographer for the Maryland Traditions program of the Maryland State Arts Council from 2021 to the present. In this role, Human Being Productions photographers document people, places, art works, and performances representing community-based, living cultural traditions located in the state of Maryland. Topics include Folklife Apprenticeship teams and Heritage Award winners.

Administrative/Biographical Note

Founded in 2013 by Matt Kelley and Greg Bowen, Human Being Productions is a full-service photography and videography production company based in Baltimore, Maryland, with clients across the United States. They work with a wide range of businesses, organizations, and individuals from various fields and industries. To further their vision to reflect Baltimore’s creative and work ethic, Human Being Productions has produced a series of micro-documentaries since 2016 focusing on Baltimore traditions and institutions that have experienced the city’s changes first-hand.

Theresa Keil has photographed most of the portfolios in this collection. Keil, a freelance photographer since 2012, works for Human Being Productions to document Maryland Traditions activities. She received a B.S. in Art: Photography from Towson University. Her professional work focuses on long-form photo essays, photojournalism, events, and portraits.

Provenance Information

Provenance and Acquisition Information

This collection was transferred to Special Collections by Ryan Koons on behalf of the Maryland State Arts Council. Prior to the transfer, MSAC staff organized the files into their current arrangement. Human Being Productions originally delivered the files to MSAC as they were created. Accession MSS2023-02

Processing Note

The digital transfer of materials was completed in 2022 by Acadia Roher. The file directory established by MSAC was not altered.
